business advice? anyone i can contact about business advice

Business advice? This is going to be a long post so I appreciate you taking time to read it. We are in need of some advice or direction. To start, my wife has been cutting hair for about 14 or so years and is a very good barber. Yes there are women barbers. She has been cutting hair where she started her new shop for almost 7 years. Over the past 7 years she has built up a very large clientele. I would say at least 4 or 5 hundred people. The shop she worked in normally ran 4 5 or so chairs, normally keeping 4 busy all the time. Most of the time if and when her coworkers were sitting she was cutting with 3 or 4 waiting for a cut in excess of an hours wait. She is that good. Not to bore you with the details, but the owner of the barbershop and my wife had a disagreement and my wife decided to quit after seven years of employment there. It was just time to go. The new shop is on the other side of town yet, in the same town. She told my wife that it was her town and she wouldn’t work in this town because she knew every barber in town and she was going to call them and make sure they didn’t hire her so what was she to do? I said, forget about her, we will open you up your own shop and that’s what she did. The shop is very, very nice and upscale. She offers shaves, hot towels and all the other treats you wouldn’t expect to get in your run of the mill shop. She has retained about 40% of her customers. More and more are coming every day. Word of mouth has really worked well. We have spent thousands of dollars in advertising in the local papers, penny savers, flyers, brochures, business cards etc so we are definitely being proactive and trying to seek out her old customers. Here’s the dilemma we are facing. Her old boss and her so called, old friends all have suffered amnesia and now have no idea where she has gone. They just say they don’t know or the make things up. Talking about bad business huh? The old boss has said every hateful thing from my wife has a metal illness to she is charging 16 dollars a haircut which neither are true. My wife has already taken a lot of business from this lady. I never wish misfortune on anyone but I want this to succeed as we have put everything we have into this business and we want it to work. What were looking for are some creative ways to get men in the door. We want to pull people out of her old shop where the old hateful boss is. Again, not to be spiteful but there are a lot of her customers misplaced out there that don’t know where she’s gone. Once new customers get their haircut from my wife or her employee, whom got fired because he was accused of backing us financially which wasn’t the case. The lady just fired him. Pretty much guilty by association I guess. Their hooked. There has got to be a way that when people turn around and walk out of the shop when they don’t see their barber that we can help answer the question, where’s my barber? Unfortunately they are the property managers so I can’t park a truck with a banner or anything like that as they would have it towed. We have gone to all kinds of community events, joined the chamber, chased people down in the parking lot, ran ads for half price haircuts. We just need a hook. We even considered giving away free haircuts which we reconsidered on because we didn’t want to get riffraff in there. My wife is young and attractive and sometimes works alone. You see where I am going there. We are looking for some feedback as to what you like, dislike about getting your hair cut, what would you do if your old boss was spreading nasty rumors about you when your customers ask where you are? Where would you recommend we advertise as not all customers read publications, papers etc. We tried the radio and are in the process of getting vinyl put on the back of the car with the shop info. We leave the lights on at night so that the passerby’s can see in. Our shop has only been open for a short time but we are looking for short term growth in a expediential way. SMALL BUSINESS ADVICE: Exporting British made products to the USA. Does anyone know the correct procedure? I have just started a small business manufacturing luxury domestic products, and I have just had some orders from the USA. I have received payment via PayPal, but do I need to do anything else other than shipping the stuff to the customer's address e.g US import duty or tax? Average price for each product is 2000 pounds sterling. It is a new business not registered for V.A.T in the uk.

Any business advice on how to handle a new company who is low balling all new bids? New company in town has basically come in and low bid every new sub division for garage doors. We have had the market share for quite some time now but can't keep up with their extremely low bids (some bids $100 lower per door!). As a follow up to my other question, my depressed friend faces stiff competition in her english-learning grade school academy. 6 larger private schools with lots of cash came to town last month with better educated teachers. My friends number of students is dropping off. I had the idea of offering the cheapest prices. I need some business advice about breech of contract? I own a beauty shop and I have an exclusive contract with the property owner. There is not suppose to be another beauty shop or barber shop in this strip mall. I have been informed by another tenant a barber shop is to open next to their business. Can you please offer some advice on my business idea? Hi, Can you please offer any advice on my business idea? Do you forsee any problems please? I have this idea for a small business. I have done some research, and found that there may be a demand for this product. I want to create a small electronic device, that people can use to experiment with high frequency sound. I am planning to just sell a small transducer (to create the sound) and a photo copy of a plan for an amplifier (plus circuit diagram) which people could take to any electronics technician, like and electrician and have built. Once I pay to have the transducer designed, it should be able to be built for under $20us pc in asia. The complete package that I sell (just transducer and photo coppies) should be no larger than a packet of cigarettes, and weigh less than 200g. I should be able to ship it cheaply through the standard mail to just about anywhere in the world. I am hoping to sell this product for under $100us. There are some possible legal issues with the final product having the possibility of being abused. It could be used to harass people and possibly cause accidents, so I am going to go to a consumer goods solicitor to have a short contract drawn up to supply with the shipped item. Also, the device may have enough power to deafen someone if aimed at their face so I am going to recommend hearing protection. Additionally the device may have enough power to paralyse someone if used in a certain way. Also, the device could inadvertently electrocute the person using it, so I am going to have it designed to run on a 12volt input, have some insulation added to the outside of the transducer, and try to get the engineer to reduce the current whilst maintaining voltage, in an effort to salvage as bigger percentage of the power as possible, and hopefully reduce the power to a non lethal level. Also, I am going to have a clause written into the contract to cover this. I am hoping to market my product directly on ebay and possibly open a yahoo store. Also, I would like to wholesale it to a number of parties who may be interested in distributing it. This is just an idea at the moment and may take a long time to develop. In the interim, I am planning to experiment with the smallest 15kHz transducer I can find, and hopefully I can get some firmer ideas about frequency and power. Can you guys please offer any ideas or suggestions about my business idea? Do you forsee any problems please? I think the main issue is not so much the danger of this product itself, as insulation can be used, and reduced power specifications can be determined for the transducer. The main issue seems to be with the danger of high frequency sound between 15kHz and 20kHz and the high level of sensitivity humans seem to have to it. As far as I can see there are no reputable published research articles on this which I can find on the web. I find this fact very surprising when one considers all the implications. Some possiblilities are that high frequency sound could be used as a harassment method (can go through wall of a house), to cause an accident (like a car accident), or in some cases even temporarily paralyse someone. The noise pollution could keep people awake for extended periods of time, it could prevent people from being able to study, and generally prevent a landlord or person renting a property from having "the right to enjoyment of the land" the main founding real estate principle. I think it would be the responsiblity of someone selling this device to include some information about the dangers of high frequency sound between 15kHz and 20kHz. I will have to speak to a consumer goods solicitor about having a short contract of warning about the dangers. I think I will also have to speak with the govt. dept. which manages business and product safety in my state. Also, even if it is legal for me to sell in my state, I may have to check with a solicitor how I can sell it overseas on the web.

Business advice on etiquette: When you know the answer to your boss's question? I work in a small family run company as their office manager. I keep track of most of the in-house accounting. Well, my boss next to me wants to know about a statement to be paid that has a note from me on it why it is different than the supplier's statement. Instead of going to me, she talks to her husband and another coworker about the matter (because he was involved in the disputed 4 invoices). The coworker has to come to me to review what we talked about last week about the statement before going to the boss. I overhear everything, but choose not to get involved because the boss did not ask me about it. Would it be rude to jump in and solve the problem before getting 2 other ppl and countless time involved in the matter? This is just an example of what happens several times throughout the week. Not just with the boss, but overlapping of duties, getting 4 people involved what 1 or 2 could do. It is a very inefficient way of business, and I don't know what I should do. It doesn't bother me to listen to them talk, as we all know what is going on. It bothers me, because I know she doesn't like me, and I think if I jump in to answer her question she'll find me rude. Any business advice for a noble cause? I am working at a struggling Swedish print shop. It`s a noble company: cruelty free, environmentally sound and charitable. Problem is that it costs 4 times as much to stay that way: to print one T-shirt is insanely expensive. We need advertisement to stay afloat, but cannot afford it. Any advice?
