If these good behaviour tapes work will the same concept work for other things? There was a story on an a current affair program tonight about a mother who put good behavior tapes (cassette tapes) as her children slept. Now her children are like angels. It's brainwash basically. So if these tapes work for good behaviour could they work for other things too? Like cutting all junk food out of your diet? Or to stop procrastinating on things etc. Al you'd have to do is buy a tape saying these things or make one of your own.
Is it possible to differentiate between culturally conditioned behaviour & innate behaviour? Does anyone know if researchers can differentiate between learned and innate behaviour in cross cultural studies ? If a child does not 'fit in' to a cultural group that they were born into how is that explained by sociologists? Are the limitations of the culture perceived as too restrictive for that personality type? Thanks for the thoughtful and interesting response. You've got me thinking...what about introverted intuitives born into western culture...maybe their genetically determined personalities would feel a greater sense of belonging, acceptance and comfort in an eastern culture.
What is the relationship between listening to certain types of music and ones behaviour? More specifically do you believe that listening to a style of music CAUSES a behaviour, or that people demonstrating certain types of behaviour seek out music that depicts that behaviour after the fact - maybe in comfort or to feel more "listened to". For example, could depression or violent behaviour be caused by first listening to sad or agressive music, or do you think people who are depressed or have violent tendancies LATER seek out music they feel they can "relate" to?
What is the behaviour of a pregnant fish? I have a silver molly. Recently got her, I may just be imagining it but I can almost swear she has got fatter in a day? What is the behaviour or a teenage boy sexually abused? It's for a story; I need details of the physical and emotional symptoms, behaviour, that would have a 13/14 years old teenage boy after he could escape from a place where he was repeatedly abused by a middle-aged man for a few weeks or months. In the story he stays silent about what happened to him, but relatives will start seeing something suspicious in his behaviour. What signs could he display? I also need to know how he could cope with these abuse, the guilt, flashbacks, etc... and start having a normal life again. The story does not occur in modern time.

What jobs deal with examining synaptic connections and human behaviour? I recently became interested in the brain and how it's synaptic connections affect the rest of a person's life. Psychologists deal with human behaviour, but I'm not personally into the whole "counseling" thing. I don't like dealing with people. So help me out under those prerequisites.

Should I be concerned about my dogs behaviour? I have a German Pinscher who on occasion seems to lunge/bark/growl at certain dogs for no apparent reason especially when the other dog is being restrained from him. Also this behaviour is sometimes seen when a noticebly submissive dog is around. He seems to bully the more submissive dog... Also note he has never actually attacked or bitten another dog. Should we be concerned with this behavior, if so how can we prevent it?
For reptile owners: What behaviour is to be expected from a pet snake? Also, what is the the best kind of small snake for beginners? Thanks.

What influence does behaviour have on relationships between people with disabilities? Does behaviour ...of a challenging nature... impact the development of relationships between people who experience disability? If so, can such behaviour work to strengthen bonds between people ...or does it simply inhibit relationships? Firstly, I would just like to thank everyone who has replied so far ...I really do appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Secondly ...a bit of explaining. I am asking this question because while completing a Bachelor of Ed. in Habilitation, I have noticed that there is hardly any literature on the topic. Though I am interested in how challenging behaviour influences relationships between people with disabilities in general, I would really be like to find out how relationships between people with intellectual disabilities are affected by behavioural issues...'cause there is absolutely no info on that. Thanks so much for your help :)
How do I stop my cats bad behaviour? Our cat has bad behaviour problems, it pees on curtains, beds and carpets. We have tried but cannot stop this. Can anyone suggest anything that may help?
What effect is modern technology having on human behaviour? Today science and modern technology is playing a major role in the way we behave but is it for the better or worse? For example if you're a grub or crim and get caught on camera then everyone will see what you have done and if you go out and commit a crime then you may leave your DNA behind for the cops to find. So how are these changes brought about by modern technology shaping our behaviour and how we manage to live our lives these days?
How to stop my dog's aggressive behaviour with other dogs when feeding? I have a 16 month old Border Collie who is generally very good natured and gets on well with all dogs. The problem arises with food and other dogs. She is very well trained to sit and stay when I feed her but when other dogs are around and I go to feed them she snarls and goes for them. Today a friend went to her food container and she actually bit him - I was mortified! Can anyone give me advice on how to stop this aggressive behaviour, I would be so grateful for any help to stop this.
When does preventing free speech to criticise homosexual behaviour become dangerous? In the UK,the Government has tried four times in the past four years to make even mild rejection or criticism of homosexual behaviour illegal, At the same time, tremendous effort has been made to suppress facts about the benefits to children to be brought up by their biological father and mother, and the many proven historical accuracies within the Bible are being suppressed and so are equally unknown by many in the public (as shown by some on these noticeboards). What is your opinion? And do you realise that if the Government gets its way, this question would be made illegal?

How long does it take cocaine to start changing your behaviour? I'm a psychology student doing a fly on the wall study of drugs, if you have taken or are taking this drug how long would you roughly estimate it takes cocaine to alter behaviour. Obviously everyone is different, and variables such as age, how much is taken, purity of the cocaine and health come in to play. But is just a general idea I want, many people on cocaine are said to be egotistical and chatty as short term effects, is this the case? And how long till it effects your personality permanently? Thanks
Anybody else feel that the behaviour from of people protesting against the BNP was childish and pathetic? Today BNP leader Nick Griffin was pelted with eggs and hit with placards by protesters opposing his parties election in the Euro Parliment. I don't support the BNP or their policies in anyway whatsoever but I found the behaviour of these people very disturbing today. Griffin and the BNP have been elected onto the EP in a democratic and legal way and as much as people don't like it they should be willing to accept that their two seats have been attained in the legal and proper manner. Appauling scenes.

How can I change my behaviour and forgive myself? Please can someone help me. I've annoyed some very good friends as I am a very "needy" person and also rather an attention seeker. I've just started seeing a counsellor but is there any hope for me that I can change? I really want to but I've tried before and failed. I'm on the verge of losing my lovely wife and the best mates anyone could have because of my behaviour and I'm struggling to forgive myself.
Is behaviour in classrooms really that bad? I an wishing to become a secondary school teacher and wonder if children's behaviour in classrooms is as bad as everyone says it is. What do you think is the long-term answer to the mindless vandalism and bad behaviour of youth? What do you think is the long-term answer to the mindless vandalism and bad behaviour of some (only some) of our youth today? When is there going to be a backlash against it? Who should really be dealing with it and how? Please don't say the police. Kow, seems to think that it is the cause of an unfair society. However, I don't think fighting in the street by drunken binge drinking youth who later beat someone up, can be blamed on an unfair society!
How can I become more mature and higher in my behaviour rather than acting like a kid, I am 30 yrs old !? I am the baby in my family and I am schizoaffective, one of the symptoms is childlike behaviour. Lately, I haven't been connecting with the people closest to me. They want me to come up higher and I don't know how to do that, it would be like wearing a mask. I also want to have a child in two yrs and I know you have to be mature to do that. Also if anyone knows of any good books about good, concrete social skills that would be a plus too. Thanks Vesdog ! Need more answers tho.
How to stop jealous behaviour between puppys? We have two maltese-pug cross pups, brother and sister, they are around 14 weeks old. Whenever we show attention to the girl, the boy becomes very jealous, tries to push her away and get in between her and my wife and I. Then he will attack her when we put her down again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to discourage this behaviour from the boy? I believe it is more jealous rough play rather than full on attacking. He has grown a lot more than her so his physical size makes it look worse than it is maybe.
Can you explain my seemingly irrational behaviour? I live in a cottage situated in a well treed lot of Northern Tasmania. I enjoy gardening as a hobby and am especially prudent when it comes to caring for my small forest. I fertilize daily, prune when needed, and remove the deadwood and broken branches. However, I also have a strange habit regarding it. Every once in a while, I cut down a perfectly healthy tree, I put it in a pot and water it daily, and then, when I tire of it, I will burn it. Can you explain my seemingly irrational behaviour? No guys! this is a riddle! not an actual problem otherwise this would be in the Mental Health or Psychology section..
Can we separate the person from their behaviour? Many students of social work theory believe we need to separate who people are from what people do. Basically, that good people sometimes do bad things, and vice-versa. Is it really possible for a person to be truly good person and do engage in truly bad behaviour(incest, rape, child abuse, etc)?
How common is deviant behaviour among men? And why do girls encourage this? Hi, My BF has been telling me that his ex used to encourage him to ejaculate on her hair. I find this disgusting. And when he was in Bangkok recently, he did the same with a hooker. I fail to understand why girls permit/encourage this behaviour. If all girls take a firm stand, men will have no choice but to fall in line.
How do I help my 6 year old in controlling his aggressive behaviour at school? Since the age of 3 years old my son has been acting out violently towards other kids at school. As much as I hate to admit it, he is turning into a bully at the age of 6. I have tried so many different ways of discipling him and nothing seems to work. I have used verbal and physical discipline. Someone told me to ignore him and pretend like he is not even there and for some time he did straighten out and then everything went right back again. I recently had a baby, and yes he is a bit jealous, but again like I said it has been going on since he was 3 years old. I have even tried praising him with cookies when he has good behaviour. Now it is to the point that the principal is willing to suspend him at "6." Please, any advice is welcome, I need to save him before it is too late! Thanks... Barbie D.
