For reptile owners: What behaviour is to be expected from a pet snake?
I am considering buying a small pet snake when I move into my place soon and thought it would be wise to ask those experienced in handling reptiles what type of behaviour is to be expected from a snake. Some people that I asked before gave various personalities of them ranging from that they are all aggressive, evil, dangerous, boring etc. But I would like to know for sure what to expect. Also, what is the the best kind of small snake for beginners? Thanks.

- First of all, Ball Pythons are the best beginner snakes, but they aren't really that small. If you don't care about size, I would definitely recommend Ball Pythons, they are extremely docile, but are still extremely interesting snakes, they need about a 30-40 gallon tank for an adult. If size is an issue, then i would recommend a Californian King Snake, they are almost as docile as Ball Pythons, but much smaller.
- Most snakes just sit in a hide box until its feeding time. A good snake would be a boa
- I would recommend the kingsnake because they are very calm definetly not the ratsnake because its mostly aggresive and doesen't like being held.
- Look into a Rosy Boa.They are only one of 2 Boas native to North America. They usually only get about 2-3 ft in length and have good long lifespans. There are a lot of varieties to choose from and are one of the best looking snakes. They are not hard to care for and can be kept in a 10 -15 gal tank. I do recommend that you do a lot of research about any snake you choose to get. Also you may want to look for a Yahoo group that has owners of what you choose so you may get help when you need it. Good Luck in your search. Snakemo
